What is Crumble?
As stated earlier, Cannabis crumble, or simply “crumble”, is a form of concentrate that is becoming increasingly popular in DC. Like most forms of cannabis concentrates, it involves extracting cannabinoids from cannabis plant matter to produce a resin with high cannabinoid and THC content.
The difference between crumble and most other concentrates is that they then process it further to achieve a crumbly or powdery consistency; hence the name “cannabis crumble”.
How Is Crumble Made
The traditional method for making crumble consists of four main steps:
Freezing: The plant undergoes partial decarboxylation by freezing with dry ice or another coolant. Some producers have reported that extended freeze times yield more potent batches of crumble.
Grinding: The frozen plant matter is then ground into a fine powder using a grinder or food processor.
Extraction: The powdered cannabis is then mixed with a solvent, such as propane, butane, ethanol, or isopropanol. This process extracts the cannabinoids from the plant material and leaves behind the undesirable plant matter.
Evaporation – The mixture is then heated to evaporate off the solvent, leaving a thick resin behind that is high in cannabinoids.
How to Use Crumble
Now that you know what crumble wax is, let’s discuss how to use it. The most common way to consume crumble wax is by heating it up on a hot surface (usually a nail) and inhaling the fumes it produces. This method is known as vaping.
Another popular way to use crumble wax is by mixing it with ground flower and then smoking the mixture in a joint or a bowl. This mixture is sometimes called “crunche”.
Crumble wax can also be incorporated into edibles such as brownies and other sweet treats, although it tends to get hard when cooled, so if you’re looking for something that’s easy to eat, crumble isn’t the best choice.
The Benefits of Crumble
Crumble wax has many benefits, they include:
Great Flavor: One advantage of crumble is its unique flavor which differs from shatter due to the specific solvents used during production. It gives preference over taste rather than strength alone like some concentrates do.
No Residue: Crumble is also a much cleaner concentrate than shatter. The butane used during production evaporates completely, which means that no extra residue will be left behind on your smoking apparatus once you’re finished vaping crumble wax. This makes for an easy clean-up and can save you money in the long run as well since there won’t be any product melted down to clean out of your rig or vape pen.
Ease of Use: Crumble wax is very easy to use and can be consumed in various ways. This makes it a versatile concentrate that can be used by all different types of consumers.
Long Shelf Life: Crumble is often very stable and does not degrade as quickly as other types of extracts, such as buds or hash. This means that crumble can be stored on shelves for longer without losing its potency or flavor.
Decarboxylation: A primary benefit of crumble is that it has already undergone decarboxylation during the extraction process. This makes it more potent than other forms of cannabis like budder, which still contains THC acid (THCA).
